About the event:

A discussion between Dr Johanna Hanefeld and Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu

Previous pandemics have shown that data gathering, surveillance and intelligence are crucial components for pandemic preparedness and response. The Robert Koch Institute and the new WHO Hub are both playing an active role in these aspects. But what is the WHO Hub, what is its mission and what are its aims? How do different actors in this field work together? Moreover, what falls under data, surveillance, and intelligence when it comes to global health? What is needed from policy makers and how do other states deal with these aspects?
To dive into these questions and to inform about what is already known, the Global Health Hub Germany invites you to the upcoming online dialogue with two experts in the field:

  • Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, Assistant Director General at the World Health Organization (WHO), leading the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence
  • Dr Johanna Hanefeld, Head of the Centre for International Health Protection (ZIG) at the Robert Koch Institute
