The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed clear gaps within global health governance and pandemic preparedness, particularly with respect to the national implementation of the International Health Regulations and the institutional capacities of the World Health Organization (WHO)

About the event:

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed clear gaps within global health governance and pandemic preparedness, particularly with respect to the national implementation of the International Health Regulations and the institutional capacities of the World Health Organization (WHO)

In order to be better prepared and aligned in responding to possible future pandemics, the 194 member states of the WHO have started developing an international pandemic treaty, establishing an International Negotiating Body for this purpose.

What will the pandemic treaty look like and how could it be implemented? To inform about what is already known, and to kick off a dialogue about the ideal form and content of the pandemic treaty, the Global Health Hub Germany invites you to an online discussion with two speakers involved in the development process:

  • Steven Solomon, Principal Legal Officer, WHO Secretariat in Geneva
  • Björn Kümmel, Deputy Head of Unit, Global Health Policy, German Federal Ministry of Health

The discussion will be moderated by Theresa Krüger, former youth delegate to the 74th World Health Assembly and a member of the Youth stakeholder group within the Global Health Hub Germany.
