WHA75 Side Event: Improving access to prevention, early detection and treatment for cervical cancer in times of the COVID pandemic

With the adoption of resolution WHA 73.2, a strong momentum has been created to eliminate cervical cancer as a global public health problem. However, since the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic, access to cancer prevention and early detection/screening for women is jeopardized by lock down and social distancing measures world-wide. This side event will highlight progress achieved in implementing the WHO strategy (EB150/7: WHO NCD report) despite the COVID pandemic related challenges. The side event will also point out gaps in health systems preparedness to deliver cervical cancer prevention and management to all women in need and how these gaps can be overcome by concerted actions of national governments, UN civil society and medical professional organizations.
By providing examples of best practices at country level, the side event advocates for urgent action for partnership development to increase prevention and treatment capacity for cervical and other women cancers so that the agreed targets of the WHO Global Strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer can be achieved by 2030.
Join the side event at 1 - 2.30pm (CET) via Zoom:
