CfA: Funding of initiatives by privately owned companies that mitigate the economic as well as the health-related impact of the corona pandemic in developing or emerging countries

The programme

In addition to projects within the develoPPP.de CLASSIC framework the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) currently supports initiatives by privately owned companies that mitigate the economic as well as the health-related impact of the corona pandemic in developing or emerging countries. To effectively counter the rapidly growing threat of COVID-19 in these countries, the focus lies on measures that are highly effective and can for the most part be implemented by the end of this year.

The projects to be funded will be selected based on separate competitions. After a first round of applications in early 2020, proposals can now be submitted again between July 10 and August 10, 2020.

Funding

Suitable projects can receive up to EUR 200,000 of funding, with the public contribution usually covering about 50% of the total costs. For projects that are expected to have a far-above average effect, a higher amount of funding or a higher public contribution may be possible in accordance with EU law.

Who can apply?

The programme is open for German and European companies as well as companies from developing or emerging market countries that:

  • have an annual turnover of at least EUR 400,000,
  • have records of two operational financial years and
  • are registered in the EU, a member country of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) or a country on the OECD DAC list

From idea to project

Interested companies can submit their project proposals for COVID-19 Response to DEG – Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft or Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) starting immediately. Incoming proposals will be screened continuously until August 10, 2020. To allow for an efficient selection process, submissions are explicitly possible and encouraged before this date. Afterwards, suitable projects will be selected in an accelerated competition process and – if approved – specified further in cooperation with the chosen partner.
