Normative Tools for Global Health Security: the international Health Regulations and beyond

On December 9th, the Graduate Institute Geneva conducts an online event on the issue of "Normative Tools for Global Health Security: the international Health Regulations and beyond".

Gian Luca Burciwas named Adjunct Professor at the Institute in 2012. He has served in the Legal Office of the World Health Organization since 1998 and has been appointed Legal Counsel in 2005. Professor Burci previously served as Legal Officer at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna and in the United Nations Secretariat in New York for nearly a decade. At the Institute he has taught in the joint LLM in Global Health Law and International Institutions programme in partnership with Georgetown University. He holds a post graduate degree in law from the Università degli Studi di Genova, Italy. His areas of expertise are in international law and international organisations as well as governance and law related to international health.


Jorge E. Viñuales is the Harold Samuel Professor of Law and Environmental Policy at the University of Cambridge and the Director of the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (C-EENRG). Previously, he held the Pictet Chair of International Environmental Law at the Graduate Institute. He is a specialist in public international law, particularly as it concerns the regulation of the environment, foreign investment and energy. He has published widely in his areas of specialisation and in public international law at large, including most recently The Rio Declaration on Environment and DevelopmentA Commentary (Oxford University Press, 2015), International Environmental Law (Cambridge University Press, 2015, with P.-M. Dupuy), The Foundations of International Investment Law (Oxford University Press, 2014, co-edited with Z. Douglas and J. Pauwelyn) and Foreign Investment and the Environment in International Law (Cambridge University Press, 2012 and 2015). Professor Viñuales has wide experience as a practitioner. He regularly advises companies, governments, international organisations and non-governmental organisations in matters concerning international law.
